The Ruins at Holliday Park – Indianapolis
Tucked inside Indianapolis’s Holliday Park, The Ruins look like something unearthed from an ancient city—
but they’re actually a 20th-century art installation built from the salvaged façade of New York City’s former
St. Paul Building. The centerpiece is sculptor Karl Bitter’s massive limestone group “The Races of Man”,
flanked by columns, arches, and historic architectural fragments collected from around Indiana.
Dedicated in the 1970s and fully restored in 2016, The Ruins now serve as a dramatic backdrop for concerts,
photos, and quiet walks through the park. It’s one of Indiana’s most unexpected sights: a slice of vanished
Manhattan skyscraper history, reimagined in a leafy Indianapolis ravine.
