Adams County Veterans Prepare for Launch of New Disabled‑Veteran Tax Credits

Adams County veterans will see the start of Indiana’s new disabled‑veteran property‑tax credits on July 1, but local officials say guidance from the state is still being finalized as counties prepare for the rollout.

Veterans Service Officer Trey told commissioners that the program is moving forward, though counties are still waiting for complete instructions on how claims will be processed. He emphasized that veterans should bring two key documents when applying: their DD214 and their VA award letter, which confirms their disability rating.

Because of how the state’s tax cycle works, the new credits are expected to first appear on tax bills in 2027. Trey noted that this delay is normal for changes to property‑tax deductions and does not reflect any local holdup.

Commissioners said the county will continue sharing updates as the state releases more information. They also encouraged veterans to begin gathering required documents now so they are ready once the application process is fully in place.

The launch marks a significant change for veterans seeking tax relief, and officials said the new credits could provide meaningful long‑term savings for qualifying households. As guidance continues to evolve, the county plans to keep veterans informed to ensure a smooth transition into the new system.
