Berne residents will have two citywide cleanup opportunities next month as the city prepares for its annual shred day and fall heavy‑trash pickup.
City officials announced that Shred Day will be held Sept. 19 from 9 a.m. to noon in the City Hall parking lot. Residents can bring documents for secure disposal during the three‑hour event. The service is open to the entire community.
The city also confirmed dates for its fall heavy‑trash pickup, which will run Sept. 21–25. Items will be collected on each resident’s regular trash day. Heavy‑trash week typically allows residents to dispose of larger household items that are not accepted during standard weekly pickup.
Both events were highlighted during the Aug. 10 council meeting as part of the city’s ongoing effort to give residents convenient ways to clear out clutter and manage waste. Council members noted that these services remain popular and help residents prepare for fall by removing unwanted items before colder weather arrives.
