FCC Adams Tax Abatement Scoring Approved

BERNE — The Berne Board of Public Works and Safety approved a perfect scoring worksheet for a major tax abatement application from FCC Adams, clearing the path for a massive local investment.

During its May 20, 2026 meeting, the board reviewed and signed off on the scoring worksheet for the manufacturer’s personal property tax abatement. The application scored a perfect 100 out of 100 points, easily qualifying the company for a 10-year “super abatement”.

The application represents a $17 million investment in personal property improvements, with no real estate improvements included in the request. Officials noted that the manufacturer had initially filed an incorrect application that mistakenly listed $1.7 million in improvements instead of $17 million, but even the initial flawed application had achieved a qualifying score.

Board members did not conduct a line-by-line review during the meeting, noting that the application had already been vetted and approved by the redevelopment committee. The board voted unanimously to approve the scoring worksheet as presented. The matter will now be forwarded to the Berne City Council, where it is scheduled to be placed on the agenda for the upcoming Tuesday night meeting.
