Geneva Council Approves Phone and IT Service Contracts

The Geneva Town Council met Tuesday 6-29-26 to take action on two technology contracts that will shift several town functions away from county‑managed systems. Members set aside all other agenda items to focus on the proposals.

The first approval involved a new telephone system. Matt presented quotes from Intermediate and Allstar and said the contract could be signed after the meeting. Council members briefly discussed the request before voting by voice, with no opposition recorded. Officials said the upgrade would support daily operations and modernize the town’s phone setup.

The council then reviewed a contract from ESI to provide IT services for Town Hall and utilities. The police and fire departments will remain on county systems because of emergency communications needs and potential grant opportunities tied to county participation. Matt said the agreement covers installation and ongoing service, and the transition from county IT support is planned for the last weekend of July.

Council members asked whether the ESI contract renews annually or long‑term, but Matt said he had not checked the term. Despite the uncertainty, the council approved the request by voice vote with no opposition. Members noted that the move helps the town operate more independently from county systems, an issue they have discussed for some time.

The treasurer said she will be responsible for issuing payments regardless of whether services come from the county or ESI. The meeting adjourned shortly after the second vote.
