GENEVA — The town’s annual cleanup day returns this Saturday, giving residents a chance to clear out unwanted items while volunteers and town staff work together to keep Geneva looking its best.
The gates open at 8 a.m. and close at noon, and as of the previous afternoon 15 households had already signed up for curbside pickup. Town employees will be on site with the loader, backhoe and payloader to help unload vehicles and compact debris into dumpsters once they arrive. The recycling site will temporarily close when the dumpsters are delivered.
Several members of the Youth Council have committed to helping, and council members noted they also plan to be present. Council President Lynn Burry said she expects to assist with check‑ins as residents arrive.
Volunteers will have one extra incentive waiting for them: Sally’s Sloppy Joes, which council members described as “world famous” and “really good.” The sandwiches have become a small but welcome tradition for those who spend the morning lifting, sorting and hauling.
While the cleanup is a routine service, council members said it reflects something larger — a chance for neighbors to pitch in together and see visible improvements around town. “I think we’re seeing some good progress around town,” one member said, encouraging residents to take part.
The event is open to all Geneva residents, and town leaders hope the turnout continues to grow as more people learn about the service and the volunteers who make it possible.
