Stars & Strikes‑A‑Thon Brings Mayor’s Challenge to Decatur

DECATUR — A friendly rivalry, a community fundraiser, and a traveling trophy will all roll into Villa Lanes later this month as the Rotary Club of Decatur and the Bellmont High School Bowling Club team up for the inaugural Stars & Strikes‑A‑Thon.

The event takes place Saturday, June 27, 2026, from 1 to 5 p.m. at Villa Lanes, with proceeds supporting the Bellmont H.S. Bowling Club and the Rotary Club’s scholarship fund.

Mayor vs. the Students

The centerpiece of the afternoon will be the “Mayor’s Challenge,” where Mayor Dan Rickord leads his team against Bellmont’s high‑school bowlers in a four‑set, 16‑game showdown.

Spectators can tip the scales: for a $1 donation, attendees may add one point to either team before the final tally. If the mayor’s team wins, he claims the Strike‑a‑thon traveling trophy. If the students prevail, the trophy remains on display at Villa Lanes. The final announcement and trophy presentation are scheduled for 5 p.m.

Public Competition Throughout the Day

The Stars & Strikes‑A‑Thon is open to all ages and will use a 9‑Pin No‑Tap scoring format.

  • Sessions: 50‑minute public bowling sessions begin at 1, 2, 3, and 4 p.m. Participants may compete within their session or against the full field.
  • Prizes: Bowlers are eligible for session‑level prizes and a grand‑prize trophy.
  • Cost: $25 per bowler, or teams may register additional players for $10 each (up to four players for $55 total). Shoe and ball rentals are included.

Organizers encourage early registration due to limited lane availability.
