Adams County commissioners received an update Tuesday on work tied to the proposed Justice Center, including a recent walkthrough of the historic courthouse by representatives from Elevatus, Garmong, and ESI. The visit focused on mechanical systems, infrastructure conditions, and items that would require upgrades even if the larger project does not proceed.
Officials said the next step is for the project team to prepare cost estimates based on the walkthrough. That estimating process is expected to take a couple of weeks once materials are submitted. Commissioners previously moved money within their budget to cover the estimating work and noted that an additional appropriation may be needed later.
The estimating package, which includes contractor and engineering projections, carries a cost of $25,500. Commissioners also discussed separating routine courthouse maintenance from capital project expenses so required repairs can be tracked independently of Justice Center planning.
Council members are reviewing funding options that could allow the county to cover part of the project without bonding. Commissioners said they are waiting for the final estimate before making further decisions and emphasized the need to balance project needs with taxpayer impact.
