Adams County Prepares for Six‑Week Chip‑Seal Program After Weather Delay

Adams County’s annual chip‑seal program is expected to begin next week after commissioners agreed Tuesday to delay the start because of storms in the forecast. Highway Superintendent Brad Weber told commissioners the department had planned to begin work this week but decided conditions were too unstable to proceed.

Weber said crews will chip‑seal 110 miles of roadway this season, a project he estimated will take six to seven weeks if weather cooperates. He noted this will be the first full season using the county’s new oil distributor, which operators have found easier to use than the previous unit.

While chip‑seal work is on hold, highway employees have been patching roads and mowing. Weber said the department’s summer help workers are already assisting with flagging and trimming around guardrails.

Commissioners acknowledged the scale of the upcoming work and the need for consistent weather windows to complete the program on schedule.
