DECATUR — The shortcut through the old Decatur Water Works is closed for business. City workers placed a traffic barricade at the Monroe Street entrance and set two more in the Riverside Park parking lot, blocking the cut‑through people have been using to get around the bridge closure.
Local drivers had been slipping through the property to dodge the detour. With construction traffic moving around nearby, the city shut it down for safety reasons and put the unofficial bypass out of business.
