FORT WAYNE, Ind. — If you’re heading to the north side of Fort Wayne, you may want to give yourself a little extra time. The construction beast has officially invaded Lima Road.
The Indiana Department of Transportation announced alternating lane closures on State Road 3/Lima Road as crews begin replacing pipes under the roadway between Dupont Road and Carroll Road. Work is scheduled to start on or after May 13 and is expected to continue through the end of July, weather permitting.
Phase 1 will close the northbound side of Lima Road, with traffic shifted to the southbound lanes and reduced to one lane in each direction. During this phase, access to Broken Oak Road and Oakville Road will be limited to right‑turn‑in and right‑turn‑out movements for southbound traffic. Northbound drivers needing those roads will have to use alternate routes.
Once Phase 1 wraps up, crews will switch to the southbound lanes for Phase 2. Traffic will move to the northbound side, again with one lane open in each direction. During this phase, access to Broken Oak Road will be closed entirely, and Oakville Road will only be reachable for southbound traffic via right‑turn‑in and right‑turn‑out movements. Drivers needing access from other directions will need to detour.
INDOT said traffic backups are expected throughout the work zone and urged drivers to slow down, use extra caution and stay distraction‑free.
