BERNE — The Berne City Council approved a revised route for this year’s July 4 parade following a request from the Events Committee during Monday night’s meeting.
Committee representative Lori Sprunger outlined the proposed changes, noting that the parade will feature only golf carts and ATVs. The procession will begin at South Adams High School and travel toward Swiss Village, a shift from the previously approved route submitted earlier in the season.
Sprunger also requested that an on‑duty police officer briefly block traffic on Highway 150 as participants cross from the school. “It’ll probably be like five minutes or so,” she told the council.
Council members raised no concerns about the route or timing and voted unanimously to approve the update.
The committee plans to offer cash prizes for decorated entries, with judging to take place at the high school before the parade begins. “We’re going to do cash prizes for the vehicles… judge them with their decorations,” Sprunger said.
The parade is scheduled for 7 p.m. on July 4.
