Decatur receives clean four‑year audit from State Board of Accounts

DECATUR, Ind. — The City of Decatur received a clean audit from the Indiana State Board of Accounts covering fiscal years 2021 through 2024, city officials announced during the April 21, 2026 council meeting.

The report contained no findings, no corrective actions and no compliance issues, a result council members described as both rare and encouraging. One official summarized the outcome as “a very good report… no opinions, no notes,” according to the meeting discussion.

The audit reviewed the city’s financial controls, reporting practices, purchasing procedures and fund management across all departments. A clean report means the SBOA found Decatur to be in full compliance with state accounting standards for the entire four‑year period.

Council members credited the clerk‑treasurer’s office and department heads for maintaining consistent financial practices through multiple budget cycles. The clean audit also means the city will not be required to implement any corrective measures, a step many municipalities face annually.

The announcement came as part of routine business during the April 21 meeting, but council members noted the significance of the result, saying it reflects strong internal controls and responsible handling of taxpayer funds.
