FREMONT, Ind. — A police pursuit that began in Michigan ended Monday night in Steuben County, where Indiana State Police arrested a Florida man after his vehicle was disabled by stop sticks on I‑69.
ISP troopers were notified around 10 p.m. on April 27 of a southbound pursuit approaching the Indiana state line. Troopers moved into position near the border and deployed stop sticks in an effort to slow the fleeing vehicle, identified as a black Ford Thunderbird.
As the Thunderbird entered Indiana, a trooper successfully deployed the tire‑deflation device, causing the vehicle’s tires to lose air and gradually slow. The driver continued southbound before exiting at the Indiana Toll Road interchange at the 356‑mile marker.
Police say the driver then fled on foot but was quickly caught by a pursuing trooper. He was taken into custody without further incident and transported to the Steuben County Jail.
The driver was identified as Mason Holbrook, 39, of Lawton, Florida. He faces the following preliminary charges:
- Resisting Law Enforcement with a Vehicle, Level 6 felony
- Resisting Law Enforcement, Class A misdemeanor
ISP noted that the incident highlights strong cooperation between agencies on both sides of the state line.
