Geneva’s Town Council on June 9 approved a mix of routine operations, a land donation intended for community use, and funding for county transit services.
The council unanimously adopted Resolution 2026‑1, accepting roughly .15 acres identified as lot 416 in the David Studebaker Addition. The deed specifies the donor’s preference that the parcel be used “primarily as a community garden” and reserves the eastern 30 ft for the donor’s personal gardening during his lifetime.
Public safety and utilities were prominent topics. Police reported routine speed and golf‑cart checks and won council approval to close Decatur Street from Line to Shackley for National Night Out on Aug. 4, with a requested closure window of about 5–9 p.m. The department also received council consensus to pursue a 100% grant for an e‑bike to increase trail visibility after residents reported feeling unsafe on portions of the trail.
The fire department said it handled 21 calls last month and received permission to use hydrants for training exercises, limited to roughly 20,000–30,000 gallons per year; staff will notify the water department when training uses water so spikes can be tracked. Fire officials also said a FEMA fire truck grant application is expected to be submitted before the June 22 deadline.
Public works updates included completion of hydrant flushing, replacement of rails and a pump at lift station 6, and ongoing Community Crossing work with ADA ramps finished and grinding planned the week of June 22. Utilities staff asked the council to help publicize proper grass‑blowing practices after crews found storm drains clogged with clippings.
Councilors approved a $2,500 pledge to the Adams County Council on Aging to support expanded transportation services and fundraising for an accessible courtyard project. Staff recommended staying with the current IT vendor after estimating that replacing firewalls and switches could exceed $100,000; councilors asked for clarification on phone‑system quotes that included a $3,800 one‑time estimate and a $266 monthly service figure.
